The Boulevarde Strathfield

A photograph of The Boulevarde Strathfield, when it was still safe to stand in the middle of the road.  Date of the photograph is not known, but it is likely taken by Kerry & Co, Sydney based photographic studio that operated from 1890 to 1917 and specialised in portraits and postcards.

The Boulevarde is one of Strathfield’s oldest roads and is the dividing boundary between Strathfield and Burwood Councils.

  1. I wonder if the fences pictured are boundary fences or designed to protect nature strip plantings & pedestrians from traffic & / or horses? Unlike some of the other photos of neatly trimmed street trees it looks like the trees are being allowed to grow relatively naturally. Possibly the ones on the right have been hedged back though far from being lollypops.
