Christmas in Strathfield

The tradition of Christmas celebration in Strathfield is long established. The Strathfield Town Centre was the site of a large Nativity display in 1958. Various ads show the Festival of Carols in 1960 and 1994.

  1. I wonder if that palm may have ended up in the garden at Council’s town hall?

Cathy thank you for that pic as it reminds me of the slightly grand houses that where behind shops and banks in the 1960s. The old car park that has been built over Strathfield Towers gave a good view of the one that can be seen in your Xmas pic. Can you tell me anything about these houses? Are shown in aerial photographs or early street photographs? You mentioned one of them in your excellent article on the ES&A/ANZ Bank article.

    • Scott, the house that can seen is Presteign. From memory, this was the home of William Beaumont. I’ll see if I have any other photos. Cathy
